How to remove catalytic converter from car

One.Some drivers decide to remove the catalytic converter from the car because they believe that it takes away power from their engine. However, as we already explained, this piece has an important role in caring for the environment. For this reason, we ask that you take other measures to optimize the performance of your engine.

Two.Well, the first thing you have to do is locate where the catalyst is in your car model. The most practical thing is that you consult the manufacturer’s manual to be sure. Do the operation with the engine cold, to avoid burns and reduce the possibility of any part breaking.

How to clean the air valve of a car


Carbon can build up on the air valve, causing it to bind. When it sticks, you cannot control the stop of the car – it can make the car stop at very high RPM, or in most cases, stop the car at low RPM. Cleaning an air valve may prevent you from having to purchase a new part, but only certain air idle control valves can be cleaned. The running air valve must have an actuation valve to allow cleaning.

  • Carburetor Cleaner
  • Screwdriver
  • 1/4-inch connector set
  • ¼ inch ratchet

One.Locate the engine idle air valve – it is near the inlet on the side of the engine.

Two.Remove the catch on the back of the idle control valve with a screwdriver. Do not break the plastic tab that holds the power cord to the probe – that is what keeps the power cord from vibrating the sensor.

  1. Uncover the radiator(a small box located in the front axle) after opening the hood of the car. Turn the screwed cap on one of the two sides counterclockwise until it is loose. Don’t do this right after driving – allow a reasonable amount of time for the engine to cool down.
  2. With the car stopped, start the thruster and do not turn it off for the next 20 minutes. In this way, you can graduate and reach the most suitable temperature.
  3. Check that the coolant circulates through the radiator. If so, the valve will have opened properly and therefore the thermostat is working. Otherwise, it means it is locked.
  4. See if the temperature arrow points to the danger zone(in red). If you have that address, the thermostat is causing the failure.

Take the engine temperature

Another way to find out if your car’s thermostat is working properly is by measuring the temperature of your drive. In this case, you will need an infrared thermometer and you will have to follow these indications:

  • Start the engine and leave it parked to allow the coolant to warm up. It is important to do it outdoors so that polluting gases from the car do not accumulate.
  • Use an infrared thermometer to measure the temperature the propellant reaches. Write down the degrees once the gauge stabilizes.
  • You should do the same with the radiator hose: record its temperature and compare it with that of the engine. If it is lower, everything works fine; if it is the same, the thermostat has opened and locked.
  • Allow 15 minutes to elapse and repeat the same procedures with the engine and radiator hose. If the temperature is around 18 degrees, the fault has been corrected. Otherwise the fault persists.


Heat water and test the thermostat

The third method that we recommend in this article to find out if your car’s thermostat works is to test it in hot water. To do it safely, follow these steps:

  1. Drains the fluid circulating through the radiator. It is important that the drain plug is screwed in once you are done. Avoid skin contact with the refrigerant because it contains toxic components.
  2. Using a screwdriver, separate the hose from the radiator.
  3. Disconnect the frame from the thrust, grab the thermostat, and remove it. You can use a socket wrench to make the process easier.
  4. Dip the thermostat in water. If you are using a saucepan, avoid touching the base as it can distort the temperature you have taken.
  5. Boil the water so that the thermostat is at the temperature it normally works at inside the engine.
  6. Finally, take the valve out of the water and check if it is open. If it opens, it works properly and if it stays closed, you need to replace it.

  • The engine works at a low temperature and this causes the fluid to accelerate.

How to repair the thermostat

To fix your car’s thermostat, you just need to perform the following instructions step by step:

  1. Remove the thruster thermostat.
  2. Look at the valve inside. It is made of mercury, so you must handle it with the utmost caution. If you notice a break inside the valve, the thermostat is irreparable and you will have to replace it.
  3. Mix water and vinegar in equal proportions and, with the mixture, clean the thermostat.
  4. Put the valve in a pot of boiling water. If it manages to compress, it will be fixed. If it stays the same, you will need to replace it.
  5. Reinstall the thermostat where it belongs on the engine.

The price of a thermostat for a car is usually around 40 euros, not counting the price of the coolant (about 30 euros) or the labor to change it if you do not do it personally.

One.The radiator cleaning operation must be carried out cold, because if the engine is hot, we will surely burn due to the high temperature reached by the water or by the steam itself.

Two.When we are sure that the engine is cold, we open the hood and the engine cover and clean, with a brush and soapy water, the metal radiator grills. There is usually sediment that will come out easily if we help ourselves with the brush.

3.The next step is to drain the radiator. To do this, we will put on some gloves and place the drain pan under the radiator drain valve. Then, we pull the handle and we will see how the cooling liquid falls, which is toxic. When finished, we cover the drain tray and set it aside, although we must keep it under control so that no one is accidentally poisoned.

How to change your car’s antifreeze fluid


Although we all know it as antifreeze, it is necessary to know that the name of this liquid is coolant, since its main function is to cool the engine. Likewise, it also works to prevent this circuit from freezing in extreme temperatures, hence it is known as antifreeze. It is a key element in the engine of our vehicle, so you should know how to change the antifreeze fluid in the car and perform the correct maintenance.

One.First of all, it should be noted that there is no exact periodicity to replace the antifreeze fluid in your vehicle, but there is a need to do so, since it loses its properties over time. In this way, the antifreeze is usually changed every 2 years or every 40,000 km, thus guaranteeing its conservation in perfect condition.

Before we can remove scratches from the car, the first thing we have to do is repair the depth of the car because, depending on this, we can do it ourselves or, otherwise, have to go to a mechanic to perform a more intense treatment and professional. The scratches that are made on the clear coat of the vehicle can be solved in a simple way but the others are usually more complicated.

A car has 4 layers:

  • Clear coat
  • Color layer
  • Primer coat
  • Steel layer

Depending on the layer that the scratch has reached, it will be simple, or not, to repair it. For example, marks that may appear from not washing or drying the car well can be easily removed with a good polish; they are considered minor scratches and, at best, reach the clear or colored coat.

But when in the scratch you can see another color or that of the steel, then we find that the damage is much deeper and to treat it you will need to go to a professional or opt for more elaborate measures that will improve the appearance of the vehicle.


One of the easiest ways to remove scratches from the car is by applying a marker or pencil to repair scratches, a product that you can get at mechanics or specialized stores. You should know that this is not a miracle method, that is, the result will always depend on the depth of the injury and will only be effective on the slightest marks.

You should know that there are two types of pencils on the market:

  • Of paint
  • Resin

The former are designed to hide the scratch by painting with the color of the body and, thus, concealing the blow to the maximum; those made of resin are indicated to fill in the mark and, therefore, make it cover and hide better. So, the first thing to do is apply the resin one and, when it dries, the paint one if you want to achieve a perfect result. It is recommended that you leave the car in the sun so that the resin dries as quickly as possible, although you should bear in mind that, normally, it usually takes about 4 hours.

But, before applying it, you should wash the area well to remove any trace of dirt that may be there; Think that if the blow has appeared after having brushed against a wall, car or column, the most normal thing is that particles of that element have remained on the body and, therefore, with a deep cleaning and drying you will be able to see the authentic brand that has stayed in the vehicle.


On the other hand, there are also some scratch repair kits that are usually sold by the same vehicle manufacturers or workshops. These kits are usually made up of:

  • An applicator brush
  • Paint the color of your car
  • Lacquer

When the scratch is a little more serious and deep, it will need a more intense type of repair and, therefore, nothing better than these kits that can achieve a more professional result and that you can easily do at home.

The first thing you have to do is clean the body well to remove any particles that may have been impregnated; then we will have to surround the scratch of the car with adhesive tape on the sides to protect the other areas that are not damaged. Once we have it, we will give it a coat of paint with the brush and, when it dries, we will spray the lacquer that will fix it.

For a much more detailed result, we recommend that, when everything is dry, wipe the area with a microfiber cloth to get the scratch removed from the car easily and quickly.


But if the make of the car is deeper , then we will need to subject the body to a much more elaborate polishing process and that, we recommend that it be carried out by a professional so that the result is much better. Anyway, if you consider yourself a “handyman” person and have tools at home, you can try doing it yourself by following the steps that we will give you below.

The first thing to do is wash and dry the bodywork to reduce the presence of dirt that may have remained on the car. Once clean, we will have to sand the area gently and, always, we will do it in the same direction of the scratch, otherwise we could create new marks.

Now we are going to pass microfiber cloths over the area to polish the scratch well and be able to repair it in depth. Now you will have to apply the compound for electric polishers, that is, an abrasive that corrodes the paint to soften it and make it perfect to put, later, the wax. Once ready, turn the polisher on to the lowest level and move it around the area for a few seconds making sure, at all times, that you are not penetrating the puncture layer.

Depending on the scratch, you can spend several minutes polishing the body well. When you’re done, wash the area again and, when it dries, you should apply the wax to seal the paint and, after 4 hours, apply the paint and then the lacquer for a splendid result.
